Meteora, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for the Monasteries which are built on pillars of rock and seem to float in the air.
As you drive up after the last village look at the caves of hermits present and past in the rock pillars.
Meteora is situated the North of Greece control of the area has been given to the Greek Orthodox Church by the Greek Government.
Depending on the day of your visit will determine the Monasteries you visit because the Monasteries close at least one day each week.
The Monasteries visited are: Great Meteora, Varlaam, Rousanou and Saint Stephen the last two are inhabited by Nuns.
IMPORTANT Visitors are asked to dress appropriately arms and legs covered, ladies should wear a skirt below the knee.
Strictly NO SHORTS allowed. Take clothes with you and change.
